Emergency Dental Appointments

Dental emergencies often happen when you least expect them, and we, at Rachelle T. Flores, DMD, are here to help. We are committed to providing our valued patients with safe, gentle, and reliable urgent care. We understand that dental emergencies may leave you feeling anxious. Our pledge to you is that we will spare no effort to make you comfortable while providing the outstanding care you deserve.

Do You Need Emergency Dental Care?

The following conditions or symptoms may indicate a dental emergency:

An Abscessed Tooth: A dental abscess usually occurs when the root of a tooth becomes infected. It can cause excruciating pain, fever, swelling, oozing gums, and other uncomfortable symptoms. Make sure you seek immediate care to avoid potential complications.

Severe Gum or Facial Swelling: If you have painful swelling of your gums or face, please contact us immediately. We will diagnose and treat the condition to alleviate your discomfort.

Severe Toothache: Persistent oral pain is a dental emergency and will require urgent care. Don't wait to see if the pain resolves on its own. Contact us right away for an appointment.

Knocked-Out Tooth: Try to insert the tooth back into its socket, or store it in a cup of milk until your appointment. A knocked-out tooth has the best chance to be saved if treated within an hour of injury. Make sure to contact our office immediately.

Cracked or Broken Teeth: A cracked or broken tooth can become infected if not treated promptly. Contact our office immediately if you've sustained damage to one or more of your teeth.

Fractured or Broken Jaw: Fracturing or breaking your jaw is a dental emergency. If you have pain in the face or jaw, or if your bite feels crooked or "off," contact us immediately.

Lost Crowns or Fillings: Losing a crown or filling can leave a tooth vulnerable to decay or damage. While waiting for your appointment, you can use over-the-counter dental cement to hold a crown in place or to fill the space left by a filling. Never use super glue to repair your restorations.

Preventing Dental Emergencies

Maintaining daily brushing and flossing and keeping up with your routine dental exams and cleanings are some of the best ways to keep your mouth healthy and free of disease. If we detect a potential concern during your visits, we may recommend treatment to prevent the condition from progressing and requiring emergency care. Moreover, we advise our patients who engage in sports activities to wear protective mouthguards to prevent damage to their teeth and gums. As the saying goes, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."
